🔗 Share this article The network's Premier New Show of This Year Secures a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons. Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network unveiled a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit. A Major Commitment On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters. "My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer." A President's Endorsement The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its distinctly quirky style. "All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Different Kind of Comedy When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family go about their daily lives. Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to evolve comedy past its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts. “We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.” Future Seasons Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well help usher in that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan. The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
