Approximately 55,000 families have currently been impacted by the rains, with their possessions and shelters damaged.

Persistent precipitation over the last seven days have intensified the already dire living conditions of the many hundreds of thousands of evacuated Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as stated by aid groups.

"Terrible" Night Brings Grave Dangers

A spokesman detailed the previous night's conditions as "terrible", with downpours so intense that up to 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the ground.

"The recent weather was really terrible for the residents. The storms were so powerful... And the gales were so forceful," noted the official.

There is grave worry that minors sheltering in temporary structures in wet garments will succumb to hypothermia and other sicknesses.

Deaths and Widespread Loss

The health ministry have reported that one baby has succumbed from exposure and a minimum of 11 other people have died in roof cave-ins due to the severe weather.

Other reports put a greater fatality count. Spokespeople reported that multiple homes had totally fallen and dozens had sustained partial collapse.

  • Almost 55,000 families impacted by the weather.
  • More than 40 emergency safe spaces severely flooded.
  • Countless residents required to relocate again.

Aid Efforts Considered Inadequate

Groups have stepped up distribution of tents, bedding and garments following the ceasefire began, but they have said there is continues to be not enough aid getting in.

"Officials are working relentlessly to deliver that assistance and to allocate it, but the scale of the necessities is so vast that we still have thousands of individuals and minors who are really suffering each evening," stated one representative.

Ongoing Concerns and Ceasefire Plans

The second phase of the truce encompasses arrangements for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the removal of troops, and other provisions.

Relief groups have stressed the need for "greater and continuous relief to address pressing and ongoing needs."

The war was initiated by an offensive in the autumn of 2023. Later military operations have resulted in a high number of casualties in the region, based on official data.
