Edwards along with O'Neil represent the initial candidates under consideration to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolves.

The previous coach was sacked on Sunday following the team's ten-game without a victory beginning to the top-flight season.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous links to the club - are part of the options to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would create a potential hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton manager - who played more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is considered a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they start the process of appointing a fresh manager.

O'Neil is additionally emerging as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a shock appointment considering he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.

The former West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed which means the club would not need to pay any buyout fee.
